“The Cane Farm” formerly part of the Burdekin Agricultural College, is located approx. 40km from the township of Ayr which is near the delta of the Burdekin River and approx. 85 km south of the port city of Townsville.
Area and Tenure
Freehold Title will be issued to “The Cane Farm” prior to the delivery of the property.
The Cane Farm consists of 773ha (1909ac)* of predominately flat land with one small watercourse through the block. There are 412ha (926ac)* of cultivation for cane made up of 60ha (148ac) to be planted by mid May 2013 and 352ha (791ac)* planted varying from 1st ratoon to 5th ratoon. In addition a further 113ha (279ac)* has been identified as being suitable for crowing cane. Water is provided by 2500ML allocation from the channel and a ground allocation of 677ML via 2 bores. The farm is set out with 2 recycling pits and some water is re used.
All crop preparation work is up to date with the farm expected to produce around the district average with current crop estimate of 30,000 to 32,000ton which will be included in the sale.
Set out below please find production figures for the past 5 years. These figures are below the district average due mainly to the lack of financial support and uncertainty created by the previous government.
It will be noted that there is no plant cane to be harvested this season and some ratoons have possibly past their use by date. Current management is much more productive with 160ac of cane to be planted before mid May.

Improvements include a solid high set 3 bedroom house, tractor shed and workshop with harvester shed, large wash down area with pressurized bore water.
The farm is well laid out, lasered and drained. The drill lengths vary from 450m to 1050m. The soils are ideal over most for the farm with only a small area of low lying swampy area. Infrastructure is great with 3 loading points, road on 4 sides and water channels on 3 sides.
